Philosophy, Mission, Vision, and Inclusivity
Our Philosophy
We believe in children. We believe in parents and caregivers. And we believe in the power of community. We understand that children are naturally driven by curiosity and that when given the opportunity to feel safe and connected they can truly thrive. We know learning through play is foundational for children (and adults too!). We want to continually support caregivers on this ever-evolving journey of raising small humans – we strive to build connections on a daily basis in addition to providing a variety of parent education classes throughout the year. At Sunset Co-op, we all play and work alongside one another in the true cooperative spirit while meeting questions and challenges with compassion, and approaching social justice issues with relentless hope.
Our Mission
We immerse ourselves in play, community, and family education. We strive to cultivate a welcoming environment that fosters social, emotional, and developmental growth – one that supports safe attachment and the vital connection that humans need in order to learn and thrive. We are intentional about our work and aim to carry these efforts into our families, communities, and the world beyond.

We believe in the power of connection and community. We envision a more equitable world that values helping to grow young minds through compassion, diversity, learning, and inclusion.
Our Statement of Inclusivity
We are an inclusive community. We welcome children and families representing the diversity of the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, as it relates to identity, family structure, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, socio-economic class, and physical ability. We celebrate a variety of cultural holidays and invite families to share with us what traditions are important to them at home. We remind ourselves that we are always learning and can benefit from exposures to new ideas.
